Snapthoughts
Sep. 1st, 2006 11:23 pmThrough a combination of odd timing, chance conversation, and another's lack of interest, I am now the proud owner of a Promethean Brain.
========
S--t. Intentions. Forgot intentions again.
========
I realize that it is actually a nifty and engaging story of political intrigue, intelligence, and determination, in an engaging if not belaboured setting, and handles the human aspect of things very well--all Bujold's Vorkosigan books do, to my mind.
But I cannot help but think of Barrayar as "Cordelia Naismith Goes Shopping".
========
Damn bad reactions to drugs. Damn photosensitivity. And triple-damn hydrocortisone cream, as it smells like shaving lather and triggers all sorts of weird associations.
========
You know, I'd love to do stuff for the Wraith Project. I really would. I just can't *think* of anything, and believe me, I've tried.
========
Damn headaches, while we're at it. I've had this thing all day. I have no idea what's causing it. I am about to test the theory that my mother made much stronger coffee than I was used to, and that I am going into withdrawal despite having had a larger than usual cup now that I am back home.
========
I realize the commercial cuts are doing it no favours at all, but Firefly is not quite hitting the same peak as Deadwood in my mind. I think part of it is the constant travelling; Deadwood's location is a given, and the characters there don't have to get along, and you can still reasonably expect them to all be there unless some of them get killed, probably by each other. I do not believe that the Serenity's crew and passengers are all each other's favourite people, but there is much more co-operation necessary, and (given the "this episode's job" feel) much less time to focus on the character interaction.
It is still good and enjoyable, but right now I am in withdrawal and would throw over watching the entire rest of Firefly if I could just get those missing episodes of season three of Deadwood goddammit.
========
While not usually a particular fan of perfume, I am seriously contemplating grabbing a sample vial of BPAL's Miskatonic University. Irish coffee, old books, and oak just strikes me as a pleasant combination. (Yes, there is a fangirl factor there.)
========
Mayfair's playing Monster House. I want to catch that before it's gone.
