My initial call; reworking of "The Shadow over Innsmouth".
Generally depilated look on protagonist[1], family ties, town-wide cult, group of bizarre things being summoned, rituals from the South Sea islands designed to awaken the Old Ones...

...and the IMDB gives Reverend Marsh as one of the characters. Vindication.
Hope it works out. Maybe they'll adapt "The Dunwich Horror" if it does. I need to grab The Wickerman before this comes out.
