The good news is, the food dye washed off. So I didn't need to go out to meet people or over to [livejournal.com profile] theweaselking's parents or to work with a fine red mist stuck to half my face. But it occurs to me that I should probably have considered these possibilities *before* loading up the toothbrush and trying to get a splatter pattern.

(Reference for painting. No big deal.)

'kay. I've been listening to Alice Cooper, and there're some lyrics in Spark in the Dark that I'm pretty sure I'm not mishearing, even though they don't actually seem to be written down anywhere (kind of spoken background over the ?bridge?, more than actually sung). Anyway. I think they're
You got a black leather dress, and it's Trojan tight
Sparks are gonna fly when I turn out the light
and enquiring minds want to know: is this product placement?

Meme-age, appropriately crunched due to Friends-list restrictions;

1) You have no idea how badly I wish I were you, and how much I envy your life. That's okay. I'm working on it.
2) I can't read Fell without seeing you as the main character. It's weird.
3) You perplex me. I have it, I don't see hardly any difference, and I don't understand why you want it.
4) I am regretting so badly that we did not take you up on your offer last year.
5) Just so you know? If they ever create a process whereby one can gain another's skills by consuming their brainmeats, I'm coming for you.
6) I don't know how you keep it together, or do so much, or keep going. I need someone else to pick me up sometimes. You don't seem to.
7) Stop living for other people. Especially at other people.
8) I don't know how much of the difference is generation and how much is just difference. Thank god I can ask you about that.
9) No. Seriously. You don't understand. I'm not that nice. I'm not that interesting.
10) I wish I could talk to you without having to wonder if what I had to say was good enough.

We had a fire going during dinner tonight (to be clear: in a fireplace, not because there was a problem cooking). A *fire*. It's not even really the cold, it's the damp. Was sitting next to it and couldn't get George R.R. Martin's description of flames as "pale orange silks" out of my head. They look so smooth.

The last Fell threw me a little. I know Fell's good, but *that* good? *That* sharp and smooth? It's like watching a neighbourhood incarnate, a distillation of watchman, some weird idea of universal policemanhood{1} that's just a step or two past sane. I think I'll reread the other issues, see if I understand the character any differently.

The Backmatter this issue touched on Will Eisner. Which of course has me turning over everything I've seen about Eisner in my head again. Hard to say anything about that, really. It's like Kay's Fionavar Tapestry; I read his stuff, I can't analyze it. I can admire it, but not step back from it.

Thank god he wrote some explanatory stuff himself.
