I am such an articulation snob. I have decided I do not like this about myself.

Rocky II is not as good as Rocky, but still good. World got a little plastic, made itself nice enough to let Rocky win; it kind of clashes with the first half of the second movie, and the first movie.

I understand where Apollo was coming from, but I still do not like him getting vicious. Rocky did not get vicious. (I grant you, he did not really have the resources to do it on anything like the scale Apollo could, but that's not the point. He still didn't do it.)

I have never really liked Mickey; he always comes across as something of a user. I get the impression he doesn't give a damn about Rocky, he just wants to be the guy who trained the champ--he never got a break, and never got the chance, and now that he has it there's nothing else he wants. John pointed out that he's Rocky's guardian-angel type, the daemon that pushes him on to excel; this is true. I always reacted more to what Mickey wanted than to what he did for Rocky (why am I putting some onus on him to care about Rocky? Must think about that); may rewatch the first movie again with the more detached perspective in mind.

And in London, for a wonder, no delays or reductions on any lines or stations.

Part of the problem with Mickey's portrayal is the (neccessarily) stunted dialogue he is forced to use - it makes it hard for Burgess Meredith to properly express his feelings for Rocky.

I urge you also to watch Rocky III, for the scene where Balboa discovers that Mickey has been protecting him by setting up sucker fights, and Rocky V in which there is a scene where Mickey tells Rocky he loves him "Now Get UP ya sonofabitch! Cuz Mickey Loves ya!"- I found the latter especially touching considering the limited vocabulary both actors were forced to contend with.

It's next on the list; we've got the DVD five-pack. I'm also going to rewatch Rocky, and try to keep as open a mind as I can towards Mickey when I do.
