When you finally get up the nerve to ask for a raise and your handler at the agency says "Sure, I'll up your rate by $1.40/hour, effective immediately", it is perhaps an indication that you have been underpricing yourself slightly in the job market.

Must keep this in mind.

*chuckles* Good job. Does the raise come with a new job or is it with the current one?

Current, unfortunately. Nonetheless, it does make the current one more tolerable while I wait for the end date, and will sound much better when I am asked what I expect for a pay rate in future.

And I have completely managed to not stress about not asking for this earlier. I'm just happy I have it now.

*does math*
*realizes that in November, I was getting 2/3 of what I am now (at a different job, then)*
*relaxes a little more*

Migod. I can start tithing to my savings again.

Glorious. :) I just closed a bank account and x-fered the money by hand. 18 hundred dollar bills of your own in your hand is a glorious feeling. Shan't experince that one again for a loooong while.

Oooooooo.

I've had more than that, but never in hard currency. I think the largest bill I've ever held is an $100, though I've carried more than that for rent--

--no, wait, I tell a lie. Had $2400 in hand once, to pay off a bill.

Only once.

*blink* What kind of bill required that kind of currency?

Credit card. Paid off in one huge lump sum.

(I typoed, sorry. $2100, not $2400.)

I really am kind of annoyed that BMO no longer supports the little Interac machines for payments. That was probably the most nerve-wracking three blocks I ever had to walk.

They don't? Wierd.

(You know, that is a perfect excuse to have friends with weaponry escort you.)

I'm not sure where you are, but here I'm pretty sure that would be illegal.

You can get fired for any good or bad reason and attribute it to any fictitious reason they like.

The burden of proof is on you to prove they had a different motivation.

Ohio.

It might be reasonable if they were looking to downsize anyway. You know, along the "We need to cut one of these three people, and we *know* this one isn't satisfied with her job anyway, so turf her" logic.

Mmh. The agency actually helps in that regard. I know the office wants me, and I know the agency wants me there because they don't get paid unless I'm at the office. I have a specialized skillset and half a year of familiarity with the office; it's not really worth it to the office to have someone else come in, because they'd need training and they're getting a real employee in soon. The agency also knows I am not happy here. So I have a little room to push, because if I quit they don't get paid and they know it.

I mean, worst case, they'll say something like "I'm sorry, we can't pay you more, but if you stay there we'll really look hard for something that pays more next time," keep me here at my current rate of pay until the job's over, and then not find me work again. At which point I will get work from the other two temp agencies that currently have my resumé.

In 6 months, I would expect that you could realistically be making another $1.80/hour with your skill set.
