792 entries; 793 including this one. Wow. (One day, I will go back through them, and make sure *all* of them are tagged. Yessssss.) I now have 99 icon slots to play with, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] commodorified. Am intending to remedy this shortly.

BPAL note: Tempest smells *nothing* like what I expected to, but is nice nonetheless. It's light floral with an undertone of soft grapefruit pith, and it smells like... like perfume. Nice, classy, night-out-at-the-theatre kind of thing. (Reminds me: must get Phantom of the Opera tickets.)

Inferno smells like the most absolutely brain-meltingly heart-breakingly delicious eat-my-own-wrist-now cinnamon marzipan for about five minutes and then the almond fades, and there's cinnamon (nice; not cinnamon marzipan) which turns into spicy neroli (also nice; still not cinnamon marzipan).

(I am holding off on testing any of the others, but I was feeling kind of ragged last night, and playing with BPAL is generally a quick small happy self-indulgence. Like chocolate, except lasts much longer.)

Finished Ira Levin's Sliver, and read an excerpt from Rosemary's Baby. I'd completely forgotten how much the Bramford was portrayed as an apartment building where Bad Things Happen. Just those few pages are starting to remind me of the Overlook Hotel, and I'm thinking about how such a building would fit into a city (gamergeeking again, basically).

Rosemary's Baby is a beautiful modern gothic novel, right down to the ominous locale and the destruction of the family. Awesome stuff.

I actually don't think I'd thought of it in those terms, but now that you mention it, it definitely clicks.

Tangentially related: Have you read Stephen King's Danse Macabre? Non-fiction light analysis of horror?

Just because you mentioned BPAL, otherwise this would be seriously off-topic, but: I thought I'd draw your attention to this (http://community.livejournal.com/bpal_canada/22005.html?view=82421#t82421) handy, dandy group-order in the making, prompted in part by the sudden hike in US-to-Canada shipping costs. :-)
If you're interested. :-)

Oooooh, thanks. I just got an order (six imps and two of the three frimps), so I'm good for a while, but that *definitely* helps. The whole $18 for one item is causing nosebleeds.

(I can't get into their damn board, either. Created an account, get an error message when I'm logged in, and can't see the messages when I'm out. I'll 'mail them again in a week' I'm guessing they're pretty busy with shipping kafuffle ATM.)
