Idiot (self-proclaimed drunk) decided it would be funny to jump out in front of John's car on the way home tonight, on one of the busiest streets in town, on a day when an hour's driving lets you see a handful of accidents and more stupid driving than I care to count.

John is a good driver.

No-one was hit. No-one was hurt.

Police were called; I am really hoping they catch him, to understate it.

More coherent summary should be up at [livejournal.com profile] theweaselking shortly. EDIT: here.

(Please note: sentiments along the lines of "Man, I hope that asshole gets himself hit" are liable to be met with snappish questioning of what the hell those poor unnamed drivers ever did to *you* that you would wish the trouble, trauma, and expense of hitting a human body with their car onto them. I am perhaps a bit touchy at the moment.)

This is why there ought to be some manner of karmic physics that prevent idiots from hurting other people when they do something stupid (traffic-related or otherwise, frankly).

*nods thoughtfully* I am liking the idea of karmic physics.

Believe me, I am very appreciative of that fact.

Apologies for misuse of the word, i had thought the meaning of said word was simply "you have my sympathy" which was frequently used after a fatality rather then a proper denotation.

The meaning is more along the lines of "I sympathize with your grief", from its original intent of "I share your sorrow"; the con- indicates the common feeling (think "conspiracy") and dole is the same root that gives you doleful, dolorous, and so forth.
