Bought groceries.

Coming soon, a post that reads
I made chili for dinner tonight.

...we ended up ordering pizza.
Am unreasonably worried about this.

You'll do fine ... tomatoe juice, beans, onions, peppers, THE SEARED FLESH OF ANIMALS, chili powder ... ratios? What? I just toss stuff in a pot and let is simmer.

Was attempting to follow a recipe, which advised seared flesh, chili-style tomatos, and black beans.

There are no such things as chili-style tomatoes at Hartman's[1]. At least not ones that come labelled as such in a can. Will be improvising with garlic- and basil-seasoned tomato chunks. Hard to go wrong with garlic.

We have onions. And chili powder. Also a single red pepper, though I debate not using that.

Depending on how much spiciness you want, you might want to make the tomatoes with garlic, basil, and diced jalapenos; you're right about it being hard to go wrong with garlic. Black beans are definitely the way to go.

It worked out okay--I didn't add jalapenos--but it was a little bland. (Sidenote: the turkey, for some reason, came flavoured with rosemary. Interesting.) Next time, I'm adding more chili pepper--I'm not a big fan of huge amounts of spiciness.

There's a level of spiciness that appropriate and a level of spiciness that's too much. it's supposed to add flavor ... but not make it so you get overwhelmed by the heat.

Great. Now I'm unreasonably worried about something *else*.

(The shudders. The shudders won't stop.)

When I was in elementary school in Kentucky, the cafeteria had a massive surplus of raisins ... so they put them in the chili. It was nasty; children became ill.
